Polyethylene Furanoate (PEF) is a 100% plant-based polymer derived from renewable sugars. It delivers superior barrier performance compared to PET — with 10x better oxygen barrier and 6x better water barrier properties.
PEF is fully recyclable within existing recycling streams and biodegrades in controlled composting environments. It represents the next generation of packaging materials: stronger, lighter, and entirely fossil-free.

(GTI) today announces the introduction of its structural PEF dual-layer paper bottle system — developed in response to the evolving requirements of the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
With regulatory mandates reshaping material selection, recyclability standards, and system design criteria, packaging development is entering what industry observers increasingly describe as a Regulation-Driven Packaging Era.
In this context, GTI positions its engineering platform under a clear principle:
Engineered for the PPWR Era.
Regulation as a Design Parameter
The forthcoming PPWR framework, led by the European Commission, introduces stricter requirements around recyclability, material transparency, carbon reduction, and circular system compatibility.
Rather than approaching compliance as a downstream adjustment, GTI integrated regulatory considerations at the structural design stage.

Technology Readiness
The system currently aligns with Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6–7, with material validation and performance testing completed.
Next steps include pilot integration, extended lifecycle testing, and collaboration with European beverage and packaging partners.
